VISION 2020, will focus primarily on generating funds for four target initiatives:
The Fund for Scholarships will add to the $100,000 already awarded annually by the Foundation.
The Fund for Institutional Stability will help the college in a variety of areas, including matching dollars for substantial grants from public and private organizations.
The Fund for Emerging Opportunities will provide venture capital for new programs and support for existing programs.
The Fund for Health Sciences will enable continued growth in training professionals in critical areas of health care for rural Nevadans.
All four initiatives will include endowments and funds for immediate use.
The initiatives will benefit students in every community across the 62,000 square mile Great Basin College service area.
Planning for the campaign began with community summits. Dozens of stake holders from across the service area were consulted on the needs of their communities in the areas of education, health care, workforce and economic development and quality of life. The summits were followed later by a feasibility study. During this time, over 65 individuals - including business and community leaders in every community served by GBC - were interviewed in regards to the strategic direction of the college.
The results of the feasibility study showed overwhelming community support for the college and the Foundation and recommended proceeding with a major gifts campaign. Key projects identified by the college in its own strategic planning were tested during the study and narrowed down to the four target projects of the campaign.
The Great Basin College Foundation Board of Trustees voted to proceed with the campaign late in 2010. Planning and implementation has been underway in earnest since then.
Solicitation of funds began with a "family campaign" involving Great Basin College employees and Foundation board members. Awareness and solicitation activities are underway throughout the GBC service area.
