Great Basin College: Associate of Applied Science in Nursing
Associate of Applied Science in Nursing
About the Program
Discover your potential with a career in nursing. At Great Basin College we offer a two-year Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in nursing. The program is fully approved by the Nevada State Board of Nursing and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC, 3343 Peachtree Road NE, Suite 850, Atlanta, GA 30326, 404-975-5000). Instruction by experienced, registered nurse educators, coupled with small class sizes provide an ideal learning environment for you. Up-to-date curricula integrates courses in nursing with general education requirements. Laboratory and clinical experience is offered at the college, in the Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital, nursing homes and other community facilities.
Admission to the AAS degree in nursing program is a separate process from admission to Great Basin College. Enrollment in the program is limited, and students are admitted only in the fall semester to begin the four-semester sequence of nursing courses. Select from the buttons at right to learn admissions requirements or to apply to the program.
Qualified applicants are selected first from the six-county Great Basin College service area. Other Nevada residents are considered next. If positions are still available, out-of-state applicants are considered. Students taking the prerequisite courses and other non-nursing courses are designated pre-nursing students. Students who have applied for and been accepted into the nursing program are designated nursing students. Only nursing students can enroll in courses with the NURS designation unless otherwise specified in the course description.
An LPN to RN Bridge course is offered only if there are openings in the current Associate Degree of Nursing class. If there is space available, a summer Bridge course will be available with skills testing and orientation held in late summer.
All nursing students should consult with a departmental adviser in planning course work.
