About the Program
New certificate programs start Fall of each year.
Medical Transcriptionist is the fastest growing occupation in Nevada. Medical Transcriptionists (MTs) work in hospitals, clinics, and physicians' offices. In the past few years a large percentage of MTs work from home for contractors or as entrepreneurs with their own home-based businesses. A nationally certified transcriptionist can live in an isolated rural area and transcribe for a physician living anywhere in the country!
Recognition of Achievement can be received by taking the two semesters of MTRN 110, 120, 130, and 140 in Fall and MTRN 200, 220, and 230 in the Spring.
GBC partners with Career Step of Springville, Utah, to deliver all MTRN courses online. Career Step's curriculum is accredited through the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (formerly the American Association of Medical Transcriptionists). Medical Transcription courses are required to be taken in a continuous sequence and completed within a one-year period. Upon successful completion of the Great Basin College Certificate of Achievement, students will be prepared to take the certification exam to become a Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT).
