GBC Center in Battle Mountain

Important Announcement

Great Basin College Closes Battle Mountain Center, Continues To Serve Lander County Students

BATTLE MOUNTAIN, NV – Great Basin College, the leader in distance education for Nevada, continues its commitment to students and the communities it serves by meeting the evolving education needs of the region. After careful consideration and planning, Great Basin College has made the decision to close the Battle Mountain Center, located at 835 N 2nd St., as of July 2024.

While the physical campus will be closing, Great Basin College remains deeply rooted in the local community. Battle Mountain High School students will continue to receive higher education classes through the dedicated GBC dual-enrollment classroom. Whereas English as a Second Language (ESL) students will have access to a newly established classroom within Lander County School District by the Fall semester.

As part of our commitment to lifelong learning, adult students will have the opportunity to utilize the dual-enrollment classroom within BMHS on Fridays. This collaborative initiative ensures local students still have access to learning facilities and technology to continue their studies, should they not have access to these normally.

"We want to assure you that this consolidation will not disrupt any of the services you currently rely on. This direction has been taken to streamline our resources and enhance the quality of services we provide to our students,” says Vice President of Student and Academic Affairs, Jake Hinton-Rivera. “We understand that change can sometimes be challenging, but we are confident that this decision will ultimately lead to a stronger and more sustainable future for GBC and those we serve."

While most Battle Mountain students have already made the transition to continue their studies online, those wishing to continue with in-person learning will still be able to take courses at our four other locations: Winnemucca, Elko, Ely, or Pahrump. For inquiries or further details about the transition, please contact Becky Coleman, GBC Winnemucca Center Director, by calling 775-327-5873 or emailing becky.coleman@gbcnv.edu.

Great Basin College, “The Gold Standard in the Silver State”, celebrates students while offering associate and bachelor’s degrees in academic, career, and technical education areas. GBC serves students enrolled online from across the country and on campuses and centers across 86,500 square miles, two time zones, and ten of Nevada’s largest counties. Branch campuses also serve the communities of Ely, Pahrump, and Winnemucca. Satellite centers are located in nearly 20 communities across rural Nevada. We border Arizona, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, and California.
