GBC's AS in Radiologic Sciences Program has received the highest award of an 8 year accreditation cycle through the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiology Technology (JRCERT).
The GBC Radiology program is a two-year program consisting of five semesters of clinical and course work. Classes are held two consecutive days a week the first year of the program. Students must attend didactic courses and lab on the Elko or Pahrump Campus. The third semester (Summer), students enter their first, 8-week clinical rotation. The following two semesters students will complete 16 week clinical rotations, along with online didactic coursework. Clinical rotations may be required at facilities greater than 60 miles from the Elko and Pahrump GBC Campuses.
Upon completion of this program, students are able to apply to take their licensure exams through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
The Mission of the Great Basin College Associate of Science in Radiologic Sciences program is to continually provide a high quality, accessible, and affordable undergraduate radiography program that will graduate competent entry-level radiographers for the local and national healthcare community. Furthermore, graduates will acquire problem solving, communication and critical thinking skills through a program that focuses on patient care, professionalism, and ethical conduct, enhancing the healthcare experience of the patients and communities they serve.
To accomplish this mission, our program provides students with extensive didactic and clinical training in the areas of radiologic physics and production, radiographic positioning, anatomy and physiology, patient care, image evaluation, radiation protection, quality control and pharmacology. Focus is placed on educating students in standards-based radiography practice optimizing patient care and outcome.
Students develop skills and professionalism through realistic laboratory simulations in our digital imaging lab. Students experience over 1400 hours of clinical experience under supervision in a variety of different imaging sites, working closely with licensed technologists to provide optimal patient care in a real-life setting.
These didactic, simulation and clinical opportunities prepare students to meet the following program goals:
