Basic Driver's Education

Introduction to the laws, concepts, and practices of safe driving in Nevada. This course should lead to the student's ability to pass the Nevada Driver Written Examination. This is a classroom course without a driving component.

This class is non-transferable for an NSHE baccalaureate degree.

  • You must be 15 years of age to enroll.
  • If you have never enrolled in a class at GBC, you pay a one-time-only $10 new student fee in addition to the course cost.

How to Enroll

Follow ALL Steps

Please follow the steps below. Click to review the enrollment process postcard!

  1. Complete the Application for Admission at The most compatible browser to use is Mozilla Firefox. Click Apply Online Now! Please choose "non-degree seeking" for a major at the end of the application process.
  2. Wait 24-48 business hours to receive your 10-digit student user ID and password by e-mail before trying to register for driver's ed.
  3. Note the Class Number from the chart to the left for the course you want to take.
  4. Go to and click on My GBC (top right) then click MyGBC Self-Service Center. Sign on with your new user ID and temporary password. You will be prompted to change your temporary password.
  5. Click on the MyGBC Student Center link.
  6. Under Academics, click Enroll. If more than one semester is open for enrollment, you may need to Select a Term, then click Continue.
  7. Enter the 5-digit Class Number and click Enter. Click Next and the class is placed in your shopping cart. Click Proceed to Step 2 of 3 button. Click Finish, Enrolling.
  8. Look at the charges for this course. If your fees total more than $60 ($50 for the course plus $10 application fee), the student must contact the Admissions and Records Office immediately at 775-753-2102.
  9. Pay for your class as soon as you enroll to avoid late fees.
  10. Once enrolled, you will receive a letter in the mail from Continuing Education with your WebCampus password explaining how to log into the driver's education online classroom.

Course Description

  • When you pass GBC's on-line Basic Driver's Ed class you can sign up for the Behind the Wheel course taught by a certified driver's education instructor using Nevada State Board of Education and Department of Motor Vehicles curriculum designed to help you pass the driving portion of the DMV Behind the Wheel exam. Currently offered in Elko only.
