We offer preschool programs and extended
childcare services to Great Basin College students, employees, and community members. Our developmental
early childhood program provides a safe and nurturing environment for young children 3 to 6
years of age. Our curriculum is “child-centered” which promotes the physical,
social, emotional, creative, and intellectual growth and language development of young children
while responding to the needs of families. We are a lab school providing training to the
Early Childhood Education students on campus in conjunction with the college’s Early Childhood
Education program.
The Great Basin College Child Center staff views the children as the heart of the
program. Each child is an individual who takes an active role in his/her own learning. The
teachers provide an age appropriate environment and curriculum that
are supported by a flexible schedule. A balance of active and quiet, large and small group
activities, as well as individual one to one time, promotes development and skill building in
all learning areas. The children have opportunities to select activities from a variety
of classroom learning stations. They are allowed to plan and carry
out their own activities, within the structure of the daily routine, which enables them to become
creative self-directed learners and problem solvers.
